Meagan Echevarria: Financial toxicity is a very real and ongoing challenge for AYAs facing cancer
Meagan Echevarria, Program Manager of AYA Cancer Program and Outcomes Research at City of Hope, shared a post on LinkedIn by Betty Roggenkamp, AYA Program Development Strategist at Teen Cancer America, adding:
“Financial toxicity isn’t just a trending topic – it’s a very real and ongoing challenge for AYAs facing cancer.
Fortunately, our program connects AYAs with organizations, foundations, and philanthropic efforts to help cover essential needs like food, gas, rent, and even tools like iPads to support school, internships, or work.
This is also why we also need vocational counselors in this space so when an AYA is ready we can help them find the job that’s best for them and assist them in advocating for accommodation if they want to go back to their prior work or schooling.”
