Marina Puchinskaya: It was an incredible lecture from ELCC 25
Marina Puchinskaya, Oncologist at “Kravira” Medical Centre, shared ESMO’s post on LinkedIn:
“It was an incredible lecture from ELCC 25! The main idea is why do we need more aggressive treatment if we can get similar results with less? The cost is something we need to think about. Finances are limited, and if we have a cheaper option we can give it to more patients. We as oncology professionals need to advocate for changing labels or at least having a legal opportunity to give less intensive, still effective treatments.”
Quoting ESMO’s post on LinkedIn:
“In his Keynote Lecture at ELCC 25, Benjamin Besse discusses when ‘less is more,’ describing different de-escalation strategies to further balance the efficacy versus toxicity of Cancer Treatment.
Reducing duration, the frequency of administration and doses may be possible, particularly with immunotherapy, but there needs to be a strong biological rationale and robust evidence to support changes in treatment regimens. Ways to move forward include biomarker identification to guide de-escalation, increased investment in Clinical Trials and further collaboration between stakeholders to facilitate changes in practice.
