The Launch of Australia’s National Lung Cancer Screening Program – Lung Cancer Policy Network
Lung Cancer Policy Network shared a post on LinkedIn:
“This month marks the long-anticipated launch of Australia’s National Lung Cancer Screening Program – a major step toward detecting lung cancer earlier. Projections suggest that the initiative could significantly improve outcomes by increasing stage I diagnoses from 16% to 60% and reducing stage IV diagnoses from 53% to just 11%.
Eligibility for screening is based on a person’s age and smoking history, with healthcare providers guiding the eligibility assessment process.
To promote equitable access, Heart of Australia is supporting the roll-out by delivering screening via mobile units to 50 rural and remote communities each year.
The launch follows over six years of expert consultation, advocacy and planning led by Cancer Australia in conjunction with researchers, clinicians and patient groups.
