“ELPIDA Foundation for Children with Cancer and Leukaemia:
Mission, work and vision – 35 years of hope, action and contribution!
Our vision at the ELPIDA Foundation was – and remains – clear: every child with cancer or leukemia should have access to the best possible medical and psychosocial care, regardless of economic or social status, country of origin or nationality.
As the founder of ELPIDA in 1990, in collaboration with a team of dedicated doctors, nurses, psychologists, scientists and parents at the Archbishop Makarios III Hospital in Nicosia – shortly after the establishment of the Paediatric Oncology Clinic – we set as an absolute priority the overall care and support of the child with cancer and his family, with respect, love and dedication.
Officially recognised by the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Cyprus as a charitable foundation, ELPIDA has made a decisive contribution to the progress of paediatric oncology in Cyprus, with cure rates of up to 82%.
Our work includes:
- Support of healthcare professionals through training and scholarships
- Supply of medical equipment and infrastructure for bone marrow transplantation
- Creation and operation of the ELPIDA hostel
- Psychosocial support and therapeutic entertainment
- Financial support for families in need
- Public information and awareness actions
Today, ELPIDA is expanding its activities internationally, through the Cyprus International Action Plan on Childhood Cancer (Cy-IAPCC), offering:
- Education, early diagnosis, telemedicine
- Palliative care
- Donations of medicines
- Advocacy and support for countries with limited resources
Our Vision: No child should lose their life to cancer. Every child should have the opportunity to heal, grow and prosper.”
