Konrad Czyzewski: I had the privilege of attending the inaugural National Undergraduate Research Conference at Brown University
Konrad Czyzewski, Honors Biological Sciences Student at the University of Notre Dame, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“I recently had the privilege of attending the inaugural National Undergraduate Research Conference at Brown University, hosted by the Ivy League+ Pre-Health Society.
The event gathered over 200 driven undergraduate researchers from more than 125 universities nationwide. I was honored to be selected for both an oral presentation and a poster presentation, titled ‘Investigating the Role and Regulation of the Mitochondrial Phosphatase PGAM5 in ECM-Detached Cells.’ Sharing my research and receiving thoughtful feedback from peers and faculty was an incredibly humbling and inspiring experience.
A standout moment from the conference was the keynote address by Dr. Wafik S. El-Deiry, Director of the Legorreta Cancer Center and Associate Dean of Oncologic Sciences at Brown’s Warren Alpert Medical School. His reflections on the discovery of the WAF1 gene and the transformative power of oncology research deeply resonated with me.
This opportunity would not have been possible without the guidance and support of my mentors—Dr. Zach Schafer, Matthew Fink, and Michael Douglas. Their mentorship has been instrumental in shaping both my scientific thinking and personal growth.
Connecting with so many brilliant students and faculty has only reinforced my passion for research that integrates fundamental science with real-world clinical applications. I’m excited to carry these experiences forward as I continue to grow in my academic and research journey.”
