Klaus Nachbaur’s article written almost thirty years ago was a turning point in the treatment of many Armenian children with cancer – Yeolyan Hematology and Oncology Center
Yeolyan Hematology and Oncology Center shared a post on Facebook:
“It is with deep sadness that we share the news of the passing of Klaus Nachbaur, a renowned journalist whose article written almost thirty years ago was a turning point in the treatment of many Armenian children with cancer.
In 1995, the famous German newspaper “Schwäbische Zeitung” published his article about an Armenian child with cancer, which was followed by the opening of the “Hilfe für Armenien” (“Help for Armenia”) foundation in Germany.
This is one of the less covered events, after which a number of Armenian pediatric hematologists-oncologists are trained in Germany, and the Germans send medical aid for Armenian children with cancer, increasing the treatment rate to 70%.
Klaus Nachbaur was also one of the trustees of the foundation. The staff of our center expresses its condolences and gratitude to the Nakhbaur family for his invaluable contribution to the development of pediatric hematology and oncology in Armenia and his noble character.”
