Kimryn Rathmell: OSUCCC-James and AACI Partnership Is Driving the Future of Oncology
Kimryn Rathmell, Chief Executive Officer of Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center-James Cancer Hospital and Solove Research Institute, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“It’s so great to see this Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center-James Cancer Hospital and Solove Research Institute and AACI (Association of American Cancer Institutes) partnership making excellent progress to empower early-career investigators as leaders in clinical research.
The next generation of lifesaving advances depends deeply on the next generation of our cancer workforce, and partnership is very much the frontier of oncology. This is how we ensure that brilliant ideas from promising minds can move forward and ultimately make a real difference for people with cancer.
Apply now for the next workshop! Deadline: Monday, August 11, at 5 p.m. ET.
What’s powerful about this course is how it combines comprehensive learning with hands-on mentorship that leads to an actionable clinical trial concept.
For nine months, junior oncologists and fellows/residents receive flipped classroom learning on the essential aspects of clinical research, including oncology, science, medicine, business/negotiation, accounting, statistics, pharmacy, pharmacology, laws and regulations, ethics, and trial management.
Each of those topics is deeply valuable to learn because of how much of a difference it makes when investigators have a critical understanding of all factors that go into how science moves forward. There are many hurdles to progress, many of which fall outside of the science itself – investigators who can deftly overcome those hurdles are often best equipped to deliver breakthroughs needed to create a cancer-free world.
Our course culminates in a ‘Trial Concept Writing Camp.’ There, participants work with experienced clinical investigator mentors from AACI member institutions to finalize clinical trials concepts that they can develop into a full protocol at their own institutions, or through the NCI clinical research networks or other clinical trial networks.
The James recently hosted a writing camp for the 2025 class, as highlighted in the link. I can’t wait to see the life-changing science that comes out of these clinical trial concepts!”
