Kimryn Rathmell: Beautiful visuals and overview of dense reconstruction of brain function and anatomy
Kimryn Rathmell, 17th Director of the National Cancer Institute, shared a post on LinkedIn by Michael Chiang, Director of the National Eye Institute, adding:
“Reposting to amplify. Beautiful visualizations, and the link below provides a terrific overview of dense reconstruction of brain function and anatomy. This mapping project is an elegant demonstration of how science can open up new frontiers for exploration. Just wow!”
Quoting Michael Chiang’s post:
“Incredible achievement supported by The National Institutes of Health (BRAIN Initiative): mapping the circuitry for visual perception in the mouse brain. Firing patterns of these neurons were overlaid on their connections in response to visual stimuli.
This was done by an international consortium, and the work serves as a preliminary connectivity map for the mouse brain. At the National Eye Institute (NEI), it has been extremely exciting to be part of the NIH BRAIN Initiative!
A collection of 10 papers has been published in Nature, and here’s a link.”
