Kelley Wood: What is the cost of inactivity in oncology care?

“What is the cost of inactivity in oncology care?

Strong research evidence shows low physical activity increases risk of poor outcomes including all-cause and cancer-related mortality – but how does it affect the healthcare bottom line?

A new study estimates costs attributable to inactivity in Brazil may be as high as $64 million USD by 2030, representing approximately 3% of federal direct healthcare costs.

Authors estimated improved physical activity levels by 2030 could save the healthcare system 3 to 8.9 million USD in 2040.”
