BIG NEWS: Health Care Price Transparency is BACK in Focus!
President Donald Trump is taking action to enforce health care price transparency by directing federal agencies to hold hospitals and insurers accountable. His latest executive order pushes for stricter compliance with rules requiring hospitals and insurers to publicly disclose their prices – giving patients, employers, and taxpayers the power to compare costs and make informed decisions.
Why does this matter?
– Health care prices have long been hidden behind negotiations between hospitals, drugmakers, and insurers.
– Many hospitals failed to comply with Trump’s 2019 rule – only 14% were fully transparent in a 2022 survey.
– Enforcement penalties are increasing, with fines of up to $2M per year for noncompliance.
Price transparency = competition = lower costs for patients.
Patient rights advocates are celebrating, but the health care industry remains resistant. Will this move finally drive real change in health care affordability?
