Jia Liu: AACR12 vs AACR25

Jia Liu, Medical Oncologist Translational Lead at The Kinghorn Cancer Centre, shared a post on LinkedIn:

“AACR12 vs AACR25
13 years ago I attended my first international conference as a final year PhD student (who had not yet finished her MD training) bright eyed and bushy tailed. The transformative impact of immunotherapy was just being reported in early phase trials, next generation sequencing was just being realised as the next wave of transformational technology.
It was a no brainer that oncology was the profession to pursue as a doctor!
Wind forward 13 years and I return to AACR now was an early phase medical oncologist/drug developer/translational researcher.
Having connected with and inspired by Patricia LoRusso early in my drug development career I was fortunate to serve on the clinical trials committee, to judge some practice changing clinical trial abstracts and see them being presented on the global stage, to chair exciting innovative oral session on immunotherapy and ADC advances and reconnect with a global network of passionate oncology colleagues and researchers.
There are many days where the speed bumps in the road (the screen failed patient, the unsuccessful feasibility, the rejected grant/paper, the negative trial) are disappointments.
But we only need to zoom out a bit to see how much things have changed and the oncology field overall as come in a decade… but how much more progress needs to be made to transform cancer care and patient outcomes…
Congratulations Patricia LoRusso on an incredibly successful meeting ‘Unifying cancer science and medicine – A Continuum of Innovation for Impact'”Jia Liu: AACR12 vs AACR25
