Jessica Whorton: Cancer survivors are strong and resilient
Jessica Whorton, A breast cancer survivor, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“Imagine facing a battle you never saw coming.
Emerging stronger, more determined than ever.
That’s the story of so many cancer survivors.
Yet, in the workplace, they’re often seen through a lens of fragility.
But here’s the truth:
Cancer survivors are strong and resilient.
They’ve faced down immense challenges and returned with stories of surviving and thriving.
As a 12-year breast cancer survivor,
I’m not not fragile; I am formidable.
When we label survivors as fragile, we diminish their journey.
We miss out on learning from their strength.
Strength isn’t just about physical capability.
It’s about the spirit to persevere, to thrive despite the odds.
Every survivor brings a wealth of experience that can enrich any workplace.
They remind us of what’s possible when you’re determined to overcome.
Let’s celebrate their achievements.
Recognize their contributions, not define them by their past.
To every survivor out there: Your journey matters.
Your voice is powerful.
And to those who work alongside them: Let’s uplift, not underestimate.
Together, we can create a workplace that values every story, every strength.
How can we better support and recognize the strength of cancer survivors in our workplaces?
I’d love to hear your thoughts.”
