Jennifer Douglas: How are you doing?
Jennifer Douglas, Writer and DCIS Breast Cancer Patient Advocate, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“‘How are you doing?’
It’s a simple question I’ve been asked a few times recently—often by people I haven’t seen in a while.
And I know what they really want to know is: ‘Are you still healthy?’
‘Has anything come back?’
The truth? I’m doing really well.
It’s been six years since my breast cancer diagnosis, and I actually feel healthier than I did a decade ago.
But getting to this point didn’t happen overnight.
Behind the scenes, there’s been a lot of intentional work—physically, emotionally, and mentally.
And yes, I still get scanxiety. I don’t expect that will ever fully go away.
But I’m deeply grateful for where I am now.
There was a time when I wasn’t sure what recovery would look like.
Now, I know that restoration is possible—even if it doesn’t happen all at once.
I wrote about this a while ago, and it still holds true:
If you work with breast cancer patients, or you’re walking through this yourself, I hope it encourages you.”
