Jemma Arakelyan: Colorectal cancer, a growing health concern that we’re focusing on this month
Jemma Arakelyan, Medical Oncologist and CEO at the Institute of Cancer and Crisis, shared a post on LinkedIn by BGI Genomics, adding:
“I had a great conversation with Keith Yangjie L. from BGI Genomics about colorectal cancer, a growing health concern that we’re focusing on this month.
I encourage you to take a look at this resource. It’s a very helpful piece of information that covers the challenges and trends in colorectal cancer awareness and prevention. Thank you, Keith Yangjie L. and BGI Genomics, for your collaboration on this important work!”
Quoting BGI Genomics’ post:
“Think Colon Cancer is Just for Older People? Think Again.
Colorectal cancer isn’t just an ‘older person’s disease’ anymore. Cases among Millennials and Gen Z have doubled in recent years, making it one of the fastest-growing cancer threats for young adults.
The recommended screening age is 45, but a report from NIH demonstrates that half of early-onset cases are diagnosed before then – often when the disease is already advanced.
If you’re in your 20s, 30s, or 40s and notice blood in your stool, persistent changes in bowel habits, or unexplained weight loss, don’t ignore it.
Colorectal cancer is treatable if caught early. Trust your gut. Speak to your doctor. Your health is worth it.
