“A Day in the Life of a Cancer Caregiver – The Strength You Don’t See

They don’t wear scrubs. They don’t carry stethoscopes.

Yet every day, caregivers wake up and step into battle- armed only with love, fear, and unwavering strength. As the founder (Priyanka Joshi) of Jarurat Care Foundation, this journey didn’t begin with a title. It began by my mother’s bedside- watching her fight cancer while I quietly fell apart inside.

I wasn’t prepared for the toll caregiving would take- not just physically, but emotionally. The sleepless nights. The hospital corridors. The helplessness.

In those moments of isolation, I clung to every source of knowledge and strength I could find. I turned to pages from National Cancer Institute (NCI), caregiver support forums, and one book that stayed with me like a friend in the dark was Living with Dying by Jahnna Beecham and Katie Ortlip.

This book wasn’t just a guide. It was a lifeline. It gave me permission to feel, to grieve, to breathe. It reminded me that I mattered too- that my mental health, my boundaries, my emotions were valid. It taught me how to offer comfort without crumbling, how to show up with strength even when I had none left.

Caregivers are the invisible backbone of every cancer journey. They manage meds, appointments, meals, meltdowns- and still hold space for someone else’s pain. But behind every brave cancer warrior, there’s someone even braver- quietly breaking and rebuilding every day.

This post is for them. For you, if you’ve ever held a hand in silence, fought for someone else’s breath, or cried where no one could see. If you’re a caregiver, please know: you are not alone.

Your love is the strongest medicine there is.”
