Ben Li on Why Hypofractionation Is Important in Low-Resource Settings – Elekta Foundation

Elekta Foundation shared a post on LinkedIn:

“Elekta Foundation recently talked to Dr. Ben Li, Radiation Oncologist and Founder of RCC.

We asked Dr. Ben what hypofractionation is and why it is especially important for clinicians in low-resource settings.

And of course, we wanted to know if RCC offers such training.

‘Hypofractionation is a modern radiotherapy technique that delivers higher doses of radiation per session over fewer treatment visits. This approach has been shown – through extensive clinical research – to achieve outcomes comparable to, or even better than, traditional fractionation in many cancer types.

For clinicians in low-income countries, hypofractionation offers a particularly valuable solution: it reduces the number of hospital visits for patients, lowering both travel and treatment costs, while also enabling radiotherapy centers to treat more patients with limited resources. This makes it a powerful tool in expanding access to quality cancer care where it’s needed most.

To support the safe and effective implementation of hypofractionation, RCC offers dedicated training programs. One of our courses in this area attracted over 1,000 participants to the live, synchronous sessions, with an additional 400 learners joining asynchronously.

The course covered the radiobiology and physics of hypofractionation, as well as its clinical application in treating breast, rectal, prostate, and CNS cancers. Delivered by international experts, the course received outstanding feedback – participants rated it 9.8 out of 10 when asked if they would recommend it to a colleague’, said a proud Dr. Ben.”
