Partha Basu: We Can Not Afford to Delay HPV Vaccine Introduction in India
Partha Basu, Head of Early Detection, Prevention and Infections Branch at IARC/WHO, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“In India, each year’s delay in HPV vaccine implementation leads to roughly 12 million girls aging out of eligibility for the vaccine. Of these, an estimated 160,000 will develop a preventable cervical cancer over their lifetime. We can not afford delay the introduction any further. In our latest publication in HPV World we propose three alternatives for the Government of India to consider, which would permit the introduction of HPV vaccination despite availability of fewer vaccine doses. Time for action!”
Partha Basu emphasized the urgent need for India to accelerate HPV vaccine implementation.
He highlighted new proposals that could help initiate the rollout even with limited vaccine supply.
