Hesham ElGhazaly: Shining a spotlight on the critical gaps in breast cancer care at AHAIC2025

Hesham ElGhazaly, Head of the Presidential Initiative of Women’s Health at the Ministry of Health and Population of Egypt, Professor of Clinical Oncology at Ain Shams University and the Founder and CEO of Alfa Cure Oncology Center shared a post on LinkedIn:

“Pivotal side event at AHAIC2025 (Africa Health Agenda International Conference) in Rwanda 2-5th March, where we shine a spotlight on the critical gaps in breast cancer care across the continent and explore actionable scalable measures to close these gaps.

This session offered perspectives from Egypt, Nigeria, South Africa and other African countries on how breast cancer care is being addressed through various programs, policies, and partnerships within their specific contexts.

This session aims to contribute to global discussions on breast cancer care and inspire policymakers and funders to strengthen efforts in reducing breast cancer mortality while considering the unique healthcare challenges and capabilities of each country.

Egypt had the honor to introduce its national strategy against breast cancer and how the Presidential Initiative of Woman’s Health (PIWH) succeeded to make a difference exceeding the global KPIs in alignment with the GBCI and Egyptvision 2030, Meanwhile, the Political will, community engagement and continuous economic evaluation are the key factors to that achievements in cost-effective modules which could be implemented in most of the African countries with shared characters including large population with culture resistant, Limited budget and decreased accessibility.

The session held in presence of top notched decision makers from across Africa including Honorable Minister Dr. Sabin Nsanzimana Minister of Health, Rwanda, Honorable Minister Raymonde Goudou Coffie, Minister Governor of the District des Lacs, Côte d’Ivoire, Soraya Mellali, Chair, Africa Breast Cancer Council, and remarkable African Figures dedicated to tackling the growing burden of breast cancer in Africa.

Proud to announce that Egypt Joined the African Breast Cancer Council and I had the honor to represent officially in the Council.”
