Richard Sullivan on AI-Driven Health Disinformation in Modern Conflicts
Richard Sullivan, Director, Institute for Cancer Policy and Co-Director Centre for Conflict and Health Research at King’s College London, posted on LinkedIn:
“Health disinformation has now become a pervasive feature of modern conflicts. An integral part of hybrid warfare, semantic Web 3.0 is being increasingly ‘weaponised’. False narratives on biothreats, civilian causalities and attacks against healthcare are being propagated by nation states using the latest digitech tools.
Artificial intelligence is increasingly being harnessed to this cause. Innovation in countering disinformation is essential; programmes such as G7’s Global Partnership Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMD) Counter Disinformation Initiative and EUvsDiSiNFO show the agility of academia and civil society to develop novel tools and support the health of populations living on the front lines of conflict.
But this is an arms race that is getting harder and harder to address. The potential for escalation beyond the threshold also remains a clear and present threat.”
