Hari Nakshatri and his team are mapping breast tissue from diverse populations for the Human Cell Atlas

“The cancer center’s Hari Nakshatri, PhD, and his team at Indiana University are making groundbreaking contributions to the Human Cell Atlas by mapping breast tissue from diverse populations.
Using samples from 92 healthy donors, their research highlights how genetic ancestry can influence disease risks and treatment responses. Learn more.”

Hari Nakshatri, PhD, is the Marion J. Morrison Professor of Breast Cancer Research and a Professor of Surgery, Biochemistry, and Molecular Biology at Indiana University School of Medicine.
He is the Associate Director of Education and Co-leader of the Breast Cancer Working Group at the IU Simon Comprehensive Cancer Center, as well as a Research Career Scientist at the VA Roudebush Medical Center.
His research focuses on breast cancer, specifically the mechanisms of resistance to antiestrogen therapies and chemotherapy, therapeutic targeting of breast cancer stem cells, and serum biomarkers for cancer progression.
Ginny Mason is the Executive Director of the Inflammatory Breast Cancer Research Foundation. She has experience in prevention, physician relations, oncology research, health advocacy, and patient advocacy.
A strong business development professional focused on breast cancer, she holds a Bachelor’s degree in Nursing from Eastern Mennonite University.
