Habib Nehmé: Elekta signed a collaboration agreement with the IAEA to improve brachytherapy planning and treatment

Habib Nehmé, Chief Commercial Officer of Elekta, shared on LinkedIn:

“On behalf of Elekta we had the honor of meeting the Director General of the IAEA, Rafael Grossi, and his team during the ministerial session in Vienna. It was a humbling experience to witness the immense contributions this organization makes to the world under his leadership, fostering peace, stability, and the use of radiation for health purposes.

I also had the privilege of representing Elekta in a panel discussion conducted by Dr May Abdel Wahab alongside health ministers and leading experts in radiation oncology. Together, we advocated for greater collaboration with the IAEA to expand knowledge of radiation therapy and increase access to advanced technologies to combat cancer, improve global health, and strengthen economies.

Elekta signed a collaboration agreement with the IAEA in medical physics, focusing on improving brachytherapy planning and treatment, further enhancing cancer care outcomes.

Through its partnership with the IAEA and the Rays of Hope initiative, Elekta is helping bridge global disparities in cancer care by contributing its expertise, technology, and resources. Key areas of focus include:
1. Capacity Building: Training 35,000 healthcare professionals annually through partnerships, peer-to-peer programs, and virtual sessions, supported by equipment and software.

2. Smart Software Tools: Leveraging Elekta Pro know, a cloud-based platform, to improve radiotherapy planning and enhance training and peer review.

3. Research and Innovation: Developing secure data-sharing systems and promoting cost-effective radiotherapy techniques like hypofractionation for resource-limited settings.

4. Advocacy and Awareness: Working with the IAEA to raise awareness, advocate for funding, and inspire global action through success stories in cancer care.”
