George Vlachogiannis: Emerging Adults’ Consideration of Their Future General and Colorectal-Specific Cancer Risk

George Vlachogiannis, Managing Editor – Cancer Control at Sage, shared an article on LinkedIn:

“Emerging Adults’ Consideration of Their Future General and Colorectal-Specific Cancer Risk
Prevention begins with awareness. In their recent 𝘊𝘢𝘯𝘤𝘦𝘳 𝘊𝘰𝘯𝘵𝘳𝘰𝘭 study, Jackie Knight Wilt, PhD, MPH and Maria Thomson report that college-aged emerging adults (18–25) moderately consider their future cancer risk when making health decisions, yet they overestimate their lifetime colorectal cancer (CRC) risk by nearly 7 times the actual average.
Importantly, those with better CRC knowledge and healthier lifestyle habits were more likely to factor cancer risk into their behaviors.
This suggests a pivotal window for early, knowledge-driven interventions that can embed protective habits before midlife, potentially altering cancer trajectories and reducing early-onset CRC risk.”
