George Kapetanakis: Introduction and reimbursement of innovative biomarkers within the Greek healthcare system
George Kapetanakis, President of the Hellenic Cancer Federation—ELLOK, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“Access to precision medicine is crucial for delivering timely and effective treatment to cancer patients. However, barriers to accessing precision oncology, such as the reimbursement of biomarker testing, reveal disparities.
Today at the All.Can Greece Roundtable, Aris Angelis, PhD, General Secretary of the Ministry of Health, unveiled ‘Shaping the Future of Biomarkers: A Roadmap for a New National Framework.’
This visionary roadmap aims to support the introduction and reimbursement of innovative biomarkers within the Greek healthcare system – a vital step forward for cancer patient care and precision medicine in Greece.
Many thanks to Christos Tsagkaris, Cancer Mission Board Member, for presenting ‘EU Cancer Mission perspectives on Cancer Biomarkers’, Zenia Saridaki, President of ΕΟΠΕ – HeSMO, for presenting the recently submitted ‘Hesmo Multistakeholders Consensus on Biomarkers’ and Kostas Athanasakis, Ass. Prof. of the University of West Attica, for the excellent coordination of the round table and the scientific support of the process.
At this point, given the political will of the Minister of Health Adonis Georgiadis and the excellent management of the General Secretary, our country is just one step away from establishing a new framework for the approval and reimbursement of biomarker testing that will address inequalities by ensuring access to innovative therapies for cancer patients.”
