Obanda A Phionah: My Blog on Genetic Counseling in Kenya Featured by 2 Prestigious Global platforms – OncoDaily and PAPERI

Obanda A. Phionah, Genetic Counselor at Clara Rosa Hospital Utawala, shared a post on LinkedIn:

“‘Genetic Counseling In Kenya Gets Global Spotlight: My Blog Featured on Oncodaily and PAPERI

I am deeply humbled to share that my blog ‘The State of Genetic Counseling in Kenya – Challenges and Realities’ has been featured by two prestigious global platforms: OncoDaily and the Pan African Pharmacogenomics Education and Research Initiative (PAPERI).

PAPERI, based in Egypt, is a continental initiative dedicated to advancing pharmacogenomics education, research, and policy advocacy across Africa. As a proud graduate of its Policy Advocacy in Genomics and Genetics program, it’s an incredible honor to have my voice amplified by its visionary founder, Dr. Wafaa M Rashed and the wider PAPERI community.

OncoDaily, headquartered in Germany, is a globally recognized oncology news and education platform that brings together researchers, clinicians, and policymakers in cancer and precision medicine.

Being featured by OncoDaily reflects the growing global recognition of genetic counseling as a key component of health equity and genomic medicine — especially in Africa.
This blog is not just an article — it is a window into:

– The untold stories of patients and families in Kenya navigating inherited conditions
– Gaps in training, awareness, and policy for genetic counseling in low-resource settings
– Cultural and social dynamics that shape genetic literacy
– The resilience of self-taught professionals filling systemic gaps

Read the PAPERI feature here.

To everyone who believes in equitable access to genetic health — thank you for walking this journey with me. May this be a stepping stone toward inclusive, Africa-led solutions in genomics.

It’s not about Kenya–Its for Africa as a whole Continent.”
