Launch of the European Parliament Intergroup on Cancer and Rare Diseases – SIOP Europe

“Launch of the European Parliament Intergroup on Cancer and Rare Diseases: A New Forum for Collaboration and Action.
On 4 March, the European Parliament Intergroup on Cancer and Rare Diseases organised a launch reception to introduce its 2025 Annual Workplan and new website to its members.
The event provided a platform to:
– Present the 2025 Workplan and the website, outlining key priorities such as health funding in the MFF prevention and the Pharmaceutical Legislation.
– Engage with experts from across the childhood cancer, cancer, and rare disease community.
– Discuss the EU’s commitment to tackling cancer through the Europe’s Beating Cancer Plan and Mission on Cancer.
Prof. GILLES VASSAL, SIOPE’s Policy Lead and Board Member, represented our organization as a speaker at the launch reception, emphasizing the inequalities in access to care and research and the need for continued cross-border collaboration in paediatric oncology.
With the leadership of MEPs Vlad Voiculescu (Renew Europe, RO), Tomislav Sokol (European People’s Party, HR), Stine Bosse (Renew Europe, DK), and Tilly Metz (The Greens/EFA in the European Parliament, LU) and the support of SIOP Europe, the European Society for Paediatric Oncology (SIOPE), European Cancer Organisation, and EURORDIS-Rare Diseases Europe, the Intergroup will continue working to keep childhood cancer, cancer, and rare diseases at the forefront of the EU health policy agenda.
