Erick Mahatara, Ambassador and Scholar at Cancer Fight Tanzania, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“Healthcare starts with us.
Have you ever wondered how our communities would look if CHWs, Doctors, Specialists, and Medical Students led by examples in practicing healthier lifestyles?
The patterns are alarming healthcare workers are at high risk of NCDs (Diabetes, Cancer, Cardiovascular diseases), due to the emerging lifestyle that we have adopted. But again, the key issue is, we often prescribe preventive measures such as (Healthier diets, physical exercises, enough rest) but we fail to implement them ourselves.
This morning as KCMC Community (KCMC University and KCMC Hospital), we came together for our weekly Health Run a space for physical exercise, professional connections, and mentorship.
It was a privilege to connect with Dr Julius Mwimo, a seasoned Community Health Specialist at the School of Public Health, KCMC and the President of ICMDA Tz.
It’s amazing to see this community thriving together.
‘Being a doctor is more than just treating patients, it’s about leading by example’.
I encourage healthcare institutions, hospital departments, the Ministry of Health, and NGOs to adopt and pioneer such initiatives in their settings.
Let’s walk the talk…”
