I am pleased to announce that starting from today and for three days, I will host in Genoa the EORTC – European Organisation for Research and Treatment of Cancer Lung Cancer Group Meeting, at the San Martino University Hospital.

This is an international annual event focused on clinical research in lung cancer and thoracic malignancies, promoted by EORTC— academic organization that plays a leading role in independent cancer research in Europe.

The three-day event will include:
– An educational day dedicated to young European researchers
– A symposium featuring international speakers
– A full day focused on updates on ongoing EORTC clinical trials and new study proposals

It is a great honor to bring such an important meeting to Italy. A heartfelt thank you to the EORTC Lung Cancer Group and to everyone who supported and contributed to the organization of this event. This meeting represents a strategic platform for promoting innovation in the fight against lung cancer.”

Lifting Up the Next Generation

The meeting began with a dedicated Young Investigators Day, showcasing early-career researchers as they presented emerging concepts and gained mentorship from senior leaders in the field.

Prof. Corinne Faivre-Finn of The University of Manchester captured the essence of the meeting in her LinkedIn post:

“Incredible three days in the beautiful city of Genova for the EORTC – European Organisation for Research and Treatment of Cancer Lung Group meeting

We started with a day dedicated to young investigators—always inspiring to see the next generation of clinical researchers stepping forward. This was followed by two packed days of scientific presentations, update on ongoing studies and stimulating exchanges on new clinical trial ideas.

This meeting also marked a leadership transition: it was the last meeting as chair for Anne-Marie Dingemans and as secretary for Thierry Berghmans. A heartfelt thank you to both for their outstanding leadership and scientific expertise over the years.

What stood out throughout was the incredible group spirit: extremely collaborative, friendly, and inclusive of all specialties working in the field of lung cancer. A true reflection of what makes this group so special—shared commitment, mutual respect, and the drive to advance research together.

Congratulations to Jordi Remon, our new chair, and Mariana Brandao, our new secretary— we all look forward to continuing our work together under your guidance.

And finally, huge thanks to our local host Marco Tagliamento for organising the event in beautiful Genova including wonderful social events—a perfect backdrop to a productive and collaborative meeting.”
