World Blood Cancer Month with Emmanuella-Faith Amoako: Day 25 of Red May
Emmanuella-Faith Amoako, Paediatric Oncology Fellow at Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital, shared a post by Blood Cancer Foundation Ghana on LinkedIn, adding:
“Lending my voice to World Blood cancer Month, because children get blood cancers too!
Even though cure rates in paediatric ALL nears 100% in high income countries, some low and middle income countries still grapple with dismal cure rates.
Early detection is key! Cure is possible.”
Quoting Blood Cancer Foundation Ghana‘s post:
“Day 25 of Red May — Blood Cancer Awareness Month.
This World Blood Cancer Month, Dr. Amoako Emmanuella-Faith Amoako, a dedicated Paediatric Oncologist, lends her voice to raise an important message: blood cancer doesn’t only affect adults; children can get it too.
The most common type of blood cancer in children is acute lymphoblastic leukaemia (ALL). Thankfully, with early detection and timely treatment, many children can be cured.
Dr. Amoako urges parents and caregivers to stay alert for signs such as unexplained fatigue, frequent infections, pale eyes, bone pain, or easy bruising.
These symptoms may seem minor at first, but they can be early indicators of something more serious.
“Early detection is key to cure,” she emphasises, because recognising the signs early gives children the best chance at healing, growing, and living full, healthy lives.
Let’s spread the word, support affected families, and stand with every child bravely facing blood cancer.
Hope starts with awareness. Awareness leads to action. And action creates change.”
