Emad Shash: Reflection on 2024 – A Year of Growth, Achievements and Resilience
Emad Shash, General Manager of the Breast Cancer Comprehensive Center of the NCI at Cairo University, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“Reflection on 2024: A Year of Growth, Achievements and Resilience.
As 2024 comes to an end, thanks to God.
I find myself reflecting on a year of profound milestones, cherished moments, and heartfelt losses.
It has been a year that tested my strength while offering countless opportunities to make a difference: locally, regionally, and internationally.
This year, our work was showcased on prestigious platforms: Presenting abstracts at the ESMO – European Society for Medical Oncology and San Antonio Breast Cancer Symposium, highlighting the impactful research and collaborative spirit of our teams.
Bringing the story of our progress in cancer patient care to global audiences, sharing insights into patient advocacy, education, and innovative treatment pathways.
At home, the Breast Cancer Hospital – National Cancer Institute continued to flourish, becoming a model for optimal patient navigation and education.
These programs are now being expanded to collaborators to ensure every patient receives compassionate, top-tier care.
Our work with the Presidential Initiative for Women’s Health has been pivotal in driving better outcomes for women across Egypt.
Meanwhile, our ongoing efforts with the CAIRO Journal Club are making a significant impact by enhancing education for healthcare professionals.
Through interactive discussions and knowledge exchange, the CJC is shaping a new generation of HCPs equipped to tackle the complexities of modern oncology with confidence and expertise.
This year, I was also honored to contribute to the work of the National Alliance for Civil Development Work.
Together, we are striving to create a stronger framework for community development.
I’m grateful for platforms like OncoDaily, which have helped spread the word about our activities and achievements, amplifying our impact and fostering connections within the oncology community worldwide.
On a personal level, this year brought moments of immense joy with my family but also deep sorrow as I faced the loss of friends, relatives, and patients whom I deeply cared for.
These experiences have reminded me of the preciousness of time and the importance of human connection in all its forms.
Looking ahead to 2025: I am determined to build on the foundations we’ve laid, striving for excellence in every project. My vision includes:
- Expanding access to high-quality cancer care and navigation programs in underserved areas.
- Continuing to integrate patient advocacy into every aspect of care, ensuring their voices guide our efforts.
To my colleagues, collaborators, family, and friends: Thank you for standing with me on this journey.
Whether through triumphs or challenges, your support has been invaluable.
Let us enter 2025 with hope, resilience, and the shared vision of creating a brighter, healthier future for all.”
