Elizabeth Ugwoma Awo-Ejeh Attends Survivors Network Gathering for Cancer Survivors Month 2025
Elizabeth Ugwoma Awo-Ejeh, Breast Cancer Survivor and Advocate, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“Yesterday, I attended the Survivors Network Gathering organized by Nest-of-Hope Community in collaboration with Okapi Children Cancer Foundation to mark the 2025 Cancer Survivors Month.
Just close to where I sat… was a sight that broke me. A small child… barely 5 years old… lying weakly on his father’s chest. I watched him struggle to sit up, then rest again… The pain was written all over his little face. Right there, I burst into tears.
I thought to myself:
- If I—an adult—went through so much pain during my cancer treatments…
- If I had to endure the countless hospital visits, the side effects, the emotional trauma…
- How much more this little child?
That moment hit me hard… Cancer truly is no respecter of age, background, or status. It can happen to anyone… at any time… anywhere.
And sadly, in my country, many cancer patients—especially children—fight these battles with little or no help, limited access to treatment, and almost no financial support. But yesterday also reminded me of something else: That even in the middle of pain… there is hope.
Thanks to organizations like Nest of Hope Advocacy and Community Support and Okapi Children Cancer Foundation, families like his don’t have to walk this road alone.
I’m sharing this today because this is bigger than me. This is about using my voice… my story… my platform… To remind you that cancer is real… but so is hope… and so is the power of community.
If you’re reading this:
- Say a prayer for children or any one fighting cancer
- Support a cancer initiative near you
- Be kind… always
Together, let’s keep hope alive. Let’s fight for those who can’t fight for themselves.”
