Ebba Fåhraeus: A Night Dedicated to Cancer Research and the Future
Ebba Fåhraeus, Executive Advisor & Former CEO at
“A Night Dedicated to Cancer Research and the Future!
A heartfelt thank you to Ulrika Årehed Kågström, Secretary General of Cancerfonden, for an inspiring and well-organized evening celebrating groundbreaking cancer research. (And what a suit!)
Congratulations to Kristian Pietras, Professor of Molecular Medicine at Lund University, for being named Cancer Researcher of the Year 2025. His pioneering research sheds new light on cancer by revealing that a tumor is not just a collection of mutated cells but a whole ecosystem where the tumor and its surroundings communicate and interact—key insights that pave the way for new cancer treatments.
Lund University has a strong tradition of excellence in cancer research, with four of the ten winners coming from the university.
In the photo:
- Göran B Jönsson, Cancer Researcher of the Year 2023. A melanoma researcher at Lund University, his work has uncovered a previously unknown role for certain immune cells, aiming to harness them to improve cancer treatments.
- Sophia Zackrisson, Cancer Researcher of the Year 2020. A professor at Lund University and radiologist at Skåne University Hospital, she focuses on advancing imaging techniques for early breast cancer detection.
- Kristian Pietras, Cancer Researcher of the Year 2025.
Not in the photo, but equally deserving of recognition, is Fredrik Mertens, Cancer Researcher of the Year 2018, honored for his groundbreaking research on sarcomas—tumors found in soft tissues, bones, or cartilage.
A standout quote from the evening:
“It’s connective tissue cells that make me get up in the morning.” – A statement that truly encapsulates a life dedicated to research.
Also, it was great to meet with so many colleagues and an old friend from Stockholm School of Economics, Mats Liedholm! Engaging table discussions covered how to bridge the gap from research to patient treatments and the importance of entrepreneurship.
Exceptional research saves lives—thank you to all the brilliant minds advancing cancer treatments!”
