Douglas Flora: Cancer Innovation That’s Changing Lives
Douglas Flora, Executive Medical Director of Oncology Services at St. Elizabeth Healthcare and ACCC President-Elect, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“Cancer Innovation That’s Changing Lives – No Travel Required. Available RIGHT HERE.
In the race to advance cancer care, the dedicated team of the Yung Family Cancer Center isn’t just keeping pace—we’re setting new standards for community hospital programs.
Our patients deserve nothing less than breakthrough treatments delivered by exceptional specialists without leaving their community.
This was the vision Kathy Jennings and I had originally promised our senior leaders and board members, and it is so gratifying to see the relentless progress being made in just a few short years.
I’m continually amazed by the work of these teams, adding a Cancer Prevention Clinic, HIPEC, HAI, robotic gastrectomies, bispecifics, and an active “first in human” clinical trial program – attracting top talent from places like MD Anderson, Cleveland Clinic, and Moffitt Cancer Center.
We’ve added 50 new providers to the care team here since opening our new flagship cancer center.
Today, I want to spotlight an exceptional achievement: our comprehensive Radiopharmaceutical Therapy program, spearheaded by the wonderful Karen Mrusek, Teri Corbin and Jason Rawe.
These powerful treatments—including breakthrough therapies like Lutathera for neuroendocrine tumors and Pluvicto for prostate cancer—combine radioactive isotopes with targeting molecules that seek out and destroy cancer cells throughout the body with remarkable precision. They spare healthy tissue and offer hope for patients with complex or metastatic disease.
The best part?
Local patients no longer need to travel hundreds of miles from home, family, and support networks to access these cutting-edge therapies. They’re available RIGHT HERE.
This is cancer-fighting at its best – team-driven, patient-centric, and making a real difference in our community.
The quality of care you’d expect from America’s top cancer centers, delivered close to home where healing happens best.”
