Douglas Flora: Gratitude Isn’t Enough – Community’s Dignity and Nourishment for Cancer Patients
Douglas Flora, Executive Medical Director of Oncology Services at St. Elizabeth Healthcare and ACCC President-Elect, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“Gratitude isn’t a strong enough word.
We’re incredibly lucky to have a community that shows up – again and again. Thank you so much to Teal We Find a Cure and Give Where you Live for your donations.
Our food pantry, Nourish, has already supplied nearly 80,000 pounds of food to our patients.
Fresh produce, pantry staples, the essentials – everything that helps someone feel cared for.
Because of some arcane Medicare restrictions, we’re not allowed to purchase and gift food directly to patients-so this all depends on the generosity of our partners and supporters.
And every time, this community steps up.
A huge thank you to 80 Acres Farms for donating fresh produce and helping us bring dignity and nutrition to the people we serve.
What moves me most isn’t just the scale of what’s been donated – it’s the intention behind it.
Every box packed.
Every pound of fresh lettuce grown.
Every pound of food shared.
It’s a reminder that health isn’t just about prescriptions and procedures.
It’s about access. Dignity. Nourishment.
And that takes a village.
We’ll keep going – because the need hasn’t gone away.
But knowing we don’t do this alone? That’s everything.
If you’re part of a company or community group looking to give back in a real, tangible way – reach out. We’d love to collaborate. Who wants to help feed some hungry cancer patients?”
