Douglas Flora: No matter how advanced tech gets, healing is still about connection and compassion

“‘Technology is a tool, but healing is a human art.’
Guys, I’m so thankful this year to have found this community. As we celebrate Thanksgiving, I’ve been reflecting on how innovation—especially AI—is changing the game in healthcare. It’s amazing to see how technology is helping diagnose faster, personalize treatments, and make care more accessible.
Takeaway from this Washington Post editorial is this idea: no matter how advanced tech gets, healing is still about connection and compassion. AI can do a lot, but it can’t replace the human touch that defines the best healthcare moments.
This Thanksgiving, I’m grateful for the progress we’re seeing in tech and for the people who keep it grounded in humanity.
Wishing you all a safe, happy, and well-fed Thanksgiving!”
