Donald McDonnell: The role(s) of estrogens in tumor immunity and how to target this pathway for therapeutic advantage
Donald McDonnell, Professor at the Department of Pharmacology and Cancer Biology at Duke University School of Medicine, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“Endocrine therapies are the cornerstone of interventions used for the treatment (and prevention) of Estrogen Receptor (ER)-positive breast cancer.
However, there is now substantial evidence from studies performed in our laboratory and others that estrogens can also promote the growth of tumors that are typically considered to be ER-negative. We are learning a lot about the role(s) of estrogens in tumor immunity and how to target this pathway for therapeutic advantage.
The importance of this work, and how we plan to translate our findings to the clinic, is discussed in the podcast.”
