Dimitrios Kalogeropoulos: The power of Large Language Models and AI in healthcare
Dimitrios Kalogeropoulos, Director at the Global Health and Digital Innovation Foundation, shared on Linkedin:
”It was a great pleasure participating in this panel discussion with Aleksandra Filipovic, medical oncologist at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust and Alberto Costa, CEO of the European School of Oncology, at Impact Bucharest. Our discussion focused on equity in cancer care and accelerating collaboration in precision oncology.
In this context, we explored the power of Large Language Models (LLMs) and AI in healthcare. LLMs break down complex problems into manageable parts, fostering collaboration between humans and AI. They’re transforming how we approach precision oncology by helping to uncover patient-specific insights, such as through Electronic Health Records (EHR) analysis.
AI projects like Google HeAR are already enhancing diagnosis, access to care, and treatment availability by using digital biomarkers. These tools allow us to make strides in personalized medicine, offering a more targeted and equitable approach to cancer care. While diagnostics remain challenging, we’re focusing on digital biomarkers to repurpose data for precision treatments, helping to fulfill the promise of personalized care.
The Habermas Machine experiment with Google DeepMind was a reminder that we can improve our communications to build consensus, even when collaborating with AI! It highlights how AI can play a constructive role in facilitating better, more inclusive discussions.
Going forward, broader engagement from communities, health systems, and regulatory bodies is crucial. Together, we can advance precision oncology and address the critical intersection of climate-health interactions, further unlocking AI’s potential to revolutionize healthcare.
Aleksandra, thank you for the kind invitation to participate in your panel and for a superb job moderating the discussion!”
