Darya Kizub Was Honored with Yvonne Humanitarian Award for Supporting Cancer Care at the Time of War in Ukraine – Global Medical Knowledge Alliance

Global Medical Knowledge Alliance posted on LinkedIn:

“We are proud to announce that Dr. Darya Kizub, Director of Oncology Program at the Global Medical Knowledge Alliance and medical oncologist at MD Anderson Cancer Center, has received the Humanitarian Award at the 2025 Yvonne Awards, presented by OncoDaily during the ASCO Annual Meeting in Chicago.

This prestigious award recognizes Dr. Kizub’s exceptional work in supporting Ukrainian oncologists through mentorship, education, and international collaboration.

As part of GMKA, Dr. Kizub has:

  • Led observership programs for Ukrainian physicians across the U.S.
  •  Co-developed research and capacity-building projects with physicians in Ukraine.
  •  Served as a World Health Organization consultant to assess gaps in Ukraine’s cancer care.
  •  Launched the U-COPE initiative to improve the management of cancer treatment side effects.

Her weekly mentorship meetings with Ukrainian medical students and doctors since 2022 have empowered a new generation of oncology leaders.

“I am deeply honored to receive this award. It is incredibly meaningful to be recognized by a group of people I look up to — individuals whose work inspires and motivates me.”, said Dr. Kizub.

Much of Dr. Kizub’s work in Ukraine has been carried out through Global Medical Knowledge Alliance, founded by her colleague Dr. Nelya Melnitchouk, MD, a board-certified colorectal surgeon at Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Assistant Professor of Surgery at Harvard Medical School.

Dr. Kizub leads GMKA’s medical oncology and research initiatives, which include organizing observerships for Ukrainian physicians across the United States and helping arrange placements for scientists to develop new skills and advance their research.
