Jennifer Douglas: Getting Into The Daily Radiation Routine
Jennifer Douglas, Writer and DCIS Breast Cancer Patient Advocate, shared on LinkedIn:
“As we wrap up my husband’s radiation treatment (only 2 left), I’m reflecting on how we have settled into a weekday routine that incorporates the daily appointments. The first week was a shock, as he was dealing with the newness of the treatments, and we both were adjusting to what our days would look like. I remember feeling out of place as I was dealing with this new routine. How would I organize the days around the treatments? My routines needed to be adjusted. We have since settled into a routine that is working.
If you are heading into a season of radiation, it can be helpful to find a new routine that works for you. If you have energy in the mornings, before your daily treatment, then it makes sense to take the time in the morning to use your energy when you have it. For my husband, that was when it made sense to exercise. When I was going through treatment, that was the time I would do some chores and also help the boys with school.
After radiation, relaxation was the key for us both. This helped us deal with the side effects of treatment and the fatigue.”
