The significant risks associated with total pelvic exenteration for advanced colorectal cancer

George Vlachogiannis, Executive Editor of Cancer Control at Sage Publishing, shared on LinkedIn:

Dr Chris Guske, Dr Seth Felder, and their colleagues from Moffitt Cancer Center and the University of South Florida highlight the significant risks associated with total pelvic exenteration (TPE) for advanced colorectal cancer: 85% of patients faced complications, with 37% experiencing major events, 40% of which occurred beyond 30 days.

No clinicopathologic variables analyzed were predictive of major postoperative complication within 90 days of TPE. Although a single-center series, this annotated postoperative complication profile may assist patients and clinicians when reviewing informed consent for TPE.”
