Claire Wakefield – The latest episode of Game Over: C*ncer is out
Claire Wakefield, Oceania Continental President at SIOP, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“The latest episode of Game Over: C*ncer is out now!!
It was super fun chatting with the brilliant Dana and Val about the tightrope between hope and reality in childhood cancer – covering tough decisions, clinical trials, and how we can better support families through the hardest moments. We also touch on critical global disparities in childhood cancer and efforts to bridge the gap.
So grateful to Cannonball Kids’ cancer Foundation for the incredible work they do.
Available on Spotify, Apple, or YouTube.”
Eden Robertson, Postdoctoral Research Fellow at UNSW Medicine and Health, shared this post, adding:
“Just listened to the new episode of Game Over: C*ncer, with Claire Wakefield talking all thing shared decision-making in childhood cancer care. Absolutely brilliant!
Claire highlights the importance of equipoise in the treatment decisions in this tsunami of novel therapies – when there are no clear “best” option, a family’s preferences play a crucial role in determining the course of care.
Thanks Claire for referencing the resource I developed, in collaboration with many wonderful people, to support families decide whether to enrol in a clinical trial. My resource provides an overview of clinical trials to give families the key knowledge to better communicate about trials, and includes an exercise to help parents and young people weigh up their pros and cons.
This resource is freely available online, or alternatively please DM me for a PDF copy!
Decision aid (from pg 296).
A must-listen for anyone interested in patient-centered care.”
