Carmen Monge-Montero: Sometimes the Bravest Thing You Can Do is Ask for Help
Carmen Monge-Montero, Researcher and Patient Advocate at Youth Cancer Europe and Founder of Monge Consultancy, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“ ‘Sometimes the bravest thing you can do is ask for help.’
Hi Network!
I met Michael Holtz , a 13-year survivor of stage 3B rectal cancer, at the American Association for Cancer Research (AACR) conference, during the Survivor to Scientist program.
From the first conversation, I was struck by Michael’s openness about men’s mental health and his mission to break the “go it alone” stigma that so many men with cancer face. He volunteers for Man Up to Cancer, a community helping men find social and emotional connections during their cancer journey.
In our Mano we talked about:
– His journey from diagnosis to survivorship
– Why grief and vulnerability are essential parts of healing
– The love and comfort of his “cancer dog” Marley
– Speaking openly about side effects – even the ones nobody expects
– Building community through Man Up to Cancer
Michael’s story is a powerful reminder that life beyond cancer is about living fully, speaking your truth, and helping others along the way.
Watch our conversation here.”
