Carmen Monge-Montero: Twin Sisters With the Same Diagnosis, Different Countries and Results
Carmen Monge-Montero, Researcher and Patient Advocate at Youth Cancer Europe and Founder of Monge Consultancy, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“From Cameroon to Canada: Twin sisters with the same diagnosis, different countries and results.
Dear Network,
I had the honour of interviewing Edith Meto’o, a person with a breast cancer experience for Mano She is a community leader, and founder of La Maison de Patricia — an NGO named in memory of her sister who passed away from cancer in Cameroon, but Edith survived in Canada
I met Edith Meto’o at the American Association for Cancer Research (AACR) conference through the Survivor-Scientist Program We were in the same working group, and from the very first conversation about equity and accessibility in cancer care, we knew we wanted to build something together
In our latest MANO episode, Edith shares:
- What it meant to be diagnosed in Canada — with access to care and specialists
- The pain of losing her sister in a system without those resources
- Why representation matters in survivorship
- Her dream to extend support to women in Africa
- And the one thing more powerful than cancer: love for others
Edith reminds us that where you’re born shouldn’t decide if you survive This conversation is a must-watch for anyone working in health equity, patient advocacy, global health, or simply looking for hope.”
