Carmen Monge-Montero Highlights Cancer Survivorship and Advocacy at Latest Episode of MANO Podcast
Carmen Monge-Montero, Researcher and Patient Advocate at Youth Cancer Europe, posted on LinkedIn:
“Hi network.
For this latest episode of Mano, I had the privilege of speaking with Carolyn Van—a brilliant mind, warm soul, and fellow advocate in the cancer space from Canada.
I met Carolyn thanks to the American Association for Cancer Research conference, at the Survivor-Scientist program. But we connected even before this, making the conference even more enjoyable 🙂
Carolyn was diagnosed at 28 and now, ten years later, she continues to shape the conversation around survivorship, equity, and human-centered care. In our conversation, she shares:
- Her experience as a young adult (AYA) with a lived cancer experience in Canada
- What cancer taught her about community, resilience, and staying calm in chaos
- The importance of cultural identity, humor, and honest conversations in healing
- Her drive behind Candidly, the podcast she created to normalize raw, real talk about cancer
And speaking of Candidly… I also had the honor of joining Carolyn on her show! Check it out!

These crossovers remind me why MANO exists: to amplify survivor voices, reduce stigma, and remind each other that we are more than our diagnosis. Thank you, Carolyn, for being real, joyful, and unapologetically human.”
