Carmen Monge-Montero: My first day at the American Association for Cancer Research Survivor-Scientist Program 2025

Carmen Monge-Montero, Researcher and patient advocate at Youth Cancer Europe, shared a post on LinkedIn:

“Hi Network!
I’m excited to share my first day at the American Association for Cancer Research Survivor-Scientist Program 2025 in Chicago!
I started the day running the 5km race, and despite the cold and wind, to my surprise, I placed 7th in my division! I’m happy that all the training over the past month paid off.
Afterward, we had the opening session and a Mini-Med School, where we learned about the basics of cancer and attended a talk on AI in cancer research.
I feel incredibly blessed to be part of this program, surrounded by 33 amazing Patient Advocates from 5 different countries, within a conference hosting more than 24,000 people.
I have to be honest — I feel small in such a big and brilliant community — but at the same time, I feel deeply blessed to be here, learning so much about advocacy and having the chance to share a little of the work I’ve been doing as a researcher and advocate.
Today, I’ll do my best to learn as much as possible to share it with others and keep building on this momentum.
Kind regards.”
