Carmen Monge-Montero: New MANO Beyond Cancer Story Shared in Honor of AYA Cancer Awareness Week
Carmen Monge-Montero, Researcher and patient advocate at Youth Cancer Europe, shared on LinkedIn:
“Hi Network!
Today we are very happy to share a new story from our MANO beyond cancer stories, in honor of Adolescents and Young Adults (AYA) Cancer Awareness Week (April 7–11)
We had the chance to meet Rasika Bombatkar during the Global AYA Cancer Conference organised by Canteen Australia last year, and her story really touched us. Rasika is an AYA lung cancer survivor and an inspiring advocate. She is originally from India and now lives in the UK.
In this video, Rasika shares:
- Her experience as a young person facing lung cancer
- What she noticed about the differences between healthcare in India and the UK
- Her hopes for better care and support for cancer patients in India
Her words are full of honesty and kindness, and we are very thankful to her for sharing her journey with us and the AYA cancer community.
Watch the full video here.
You can follow Rasika here.
Every year, around 1.2 million adolescents and young adults (ages 15–39) are diagnosed with cancer around the world. Many of them feel alone or misunderstood because cancer at this age brings special challenges—school, work, body image, fertility, mental health, and more.
AYA Cancer Awareness Week is a time to listen to their voices and bring more support and visibility to this part of the cancer community.”
