The Influential Leaders Who Have Shaped Cancer Council Victoria’s Nearly 90-Year History
Cancer Council Victoria shared a post on LinkedIn:
“Yesterday, we had the honour of welcoming some of the influential leaders who have shaped Cancer Council Victoria’s nearly 90-year history.
Each of these individuals has played a significant role in advancing cancer research, prevention and support across the organisation.
To celebrate their contributions, artist Charli Lin created a stunning mural capturing their legacy and impact.
We were joined by:
Professor David Hill AO
Behavioural scientist and former CEO of Cancer Council Victoria. David led the organisation’s behavioural research efforts for over four decades.
Dorothy Reading OAM
In memory of Dorothy, her husband Peter joined us for this special day. Dorothy played a major role in establishing successful cancer prevention programs such as Quit, PapScreen Victoria and SunSmart at Cancer Council Victoria – programs which continue to save thousands of lives.
Dr Michelle Scollo AM
Former Director of Quit Victoria and current senior tobacco policy advisor. Michelle has over 30 years’ experience in tobacco control, with a focus on policy, programs and research.
Rev Dr Ruth Redpath AO
Retired surgeon and radiation oncologist who championed palliative care. Ruth served 15 years on our Board, including seven as President.
Doreen Akkerman AM
A leader in cancer support services, Doreen helped establish the Cancer Information and Support Service, now recognised internationally.
Professor Craig Sinclair
Head of Prevention since 2003 and Director of the WHO Collaborative Centre for UV Radiation. Craig has led cancer prevention efforts since joining in 1993.
We are proud to celebrate the people whose leadership and dedication continue to shape a cancer-free future.”
