C/Can Hosts Cancer Navigation Workshop in León to Improve Breast Cancer Care
City Cancer Challenge (C/Can) shared on LinkedIn:
“In Mexico, where the healthcare system is fragmented and complex to navigate, finding a clear path to timely, coordinated, and compassionate care is not always easy.
That’s why in León we brought together 35 healthcare professionals from 9 different institutions from Leon, Guanajuato and Ciudad de Mexico for a two-day workshop focused on designing comprehensive cancer navigation programmes for breast cancer patients.
Organised by City Cancer Challenge (C/Can), in close collaboration with National Cancer Institute (Mexico), National Institute of Medical Sciences and Nutrition Salvador Zubirán (INCMNSZ), Navigation Patient International, and the American Cancer Society, the workshop was a milestone in shaping more equitable access to cancer care in the country.
Over 20 hours of training, participants explored every layer of the navigation model – from policy to practice—co-designing locally relevant solutions to guide patients through the health system and improve their overall experience.
‘The Navigation Workshop fostered collaboration and experience-sharing to help bring oncology services closer to patients. While access to healthcare is often cited as a fundamental right, navigation offers a human-centered approach that guides and supports patients, ultimately improving access and outcomes.’ Said Dr. Eduardo Arturo Limon, Associate Medical Director, Hospital General de Leon
‘The workshop is very well designed for effective learning. From the INCan visit, I’m leaving with many ideas to implement in my institution’ said María del Carmen López Muñoz, Deputy Head of Social Work, IMSS
For cities like León and the State of Guanajuato, investing in patient navigation is more than a technical solution – it’s a lifeline for women caught in the gaps of a system that isn’t yet built around their needs.
Together, we’re charting a new course. One that puts women and their stories at the centre of care.
We would like to thank Global Focus on Cancer (US charitable organisation supported by Eli Lilly and Company) for their support of this project.”
