BRAINCELL: Pioneering a Liquid Biopsy for Brain Metastases
Sussex Cancer Fund shared a post on LinkedIn:
“BRAINCELL: Pioneering a Liquid Biopsy for Brain Metastases
Sussex Cancer Fund is proud to be supporting a potentially life-changing research project with £60,000 of funding, in collaboration with Action Against Cancer. Together, we’re backing Professor Georgios Giamas and Dr Stephen Robinson (pictured) from the University of Sussex to develop a simple blood test to detect and monitor brain metastases — removing the need for risky brain surgery and stressful MRI scans.
The BRAINCELL project focuses on extracellular vesicles in the blood, aiming to create a predictive, personalised, and non-invasive test to:
- Diagnose brain metastases
- Track treatment response
- Detect recurrence early
This unique study is supported by institutions including The Royal Marsden Hospital, University of Manchester, Teesside University, and the University of Otago – bringing together brilliant minds across the globe.
With the potential to transform cancer care, this research is one to watch.
Learn more about the project and how we’re helping to make it happen.”
Georgios Giamas, Editor in Chief at Cancer Gene Therapy and Professor of Cancer Cell Signalling at University of Sussex, shared this post adding:
“A big ‘Thanks’ to Sussex Cancer Fund and Action Against Cancer for supporting this exciting project.
Watch this space…!”
