Bernard A. Fox: Great commentary from Nature Medicine on vaccine hesitancy and the threat presented by the new leadership of HHS

Bernard A. Fox, Co-Founder / President / CEO at UbiVac, shared Saheli Sadanand’s post on LinkedIn:

“Great commentary from Nature Medicine on vaccine hesitancy and the threat presented by the new leadership of HHS. As a member of the The American Association of Immunologists for more than 40 years I am delighted that they have stepped up to address this issue, but we are going to need everyone to push back against the coming onslaught of Fake News. While there are rare side effects from vaccines, the results are clear – Vaccines Work. They save lives.”

Quoting Saheli Sadanand’s post on LinkedIn:

“Really proud of our latest Nature Medicine editorial, which focuses on the urgent need for scientific & medical communities to push back against vaccine revisionism.

Vaccine revisionism is the false narrative that there is insufficient evidence to support the efficacy and safety of vaccines. The ongoing Measles outbreak in Texas has led to the deaths of 2 unvaccinated children, with almost all cases in unvaccinated individuals. Measles is a vaccine-preventable disease. The inability of RFK Jr and the US federal government at large to unequivocally support & promote use of the MMR vaccine is both tragic & horrifying.

We call upon the scientific community to step up & actively fight back against vaccine revisionism by:

  • providing timely & accessible rebuttals of vaccine revisionist narratives with effective messaging
  • working together with local health officials, medical research institute leadership & medical and public health societies to better support vaccine uptake
  • continuing to study vaccine hesitancy and identifying concrete approaches for incentivizing vaccine uptake

To avoid threatening global gains made in childhood morbidity and survival since the introduction of vaccines, it is imperative for everyone to speak up now.
