“Hot off the press! The UAE National Cancer Registry report for 2023:

Here are the key findings:

Cancer Incidence in the UAE (2023)

  • A total of 7,487 new cancer cases were recorded, including:
  •  7,098 invasive cancers (malignant) (94.8%)
  • 389 non-invasive (in-situ) cancers (5.2%)

Gender Distribution (Both Invasive and In-Situ):

  • Females: 4,200 cases (56.1%)
  • Males: 3,287 cases (43.9%)

Nationality Breakdown:

  • Emirati population: 1,736 cases (1,648 invasive, 88 in-situ)
  •  Non-Emirati population: 5,751 cases (5,450 invasive, 301 in-situ)

Most Common Cancers

Overall (both genders):

  1. Breast (1456 cases)
  2. thyroid (794 cases)
  3. colorectal (588 cases)
  4. skin carcinoma (333 cases)
  5. prostate cancer (324 cases)

Males:

  • Colorectal, prostate, thyroid, leukemia, and skin carcinoma.
    Females:
  • Breast, thyroid, colorectal, uterus, and cervix uteri cancer.

Age group distribution:

  • the highest number of cancer cases occurred in the 40–44 years age group, 925 cases (13%)
  • 45–49 years age group with 877 cases (12.4%)
  • 50–54 years age group with 755 cases (10.6%).

Cancer Incidence Rates

  • Crude incidence rate: 66.5 per 100,000 people
  • Age-standardized incidence rate (ASR):
  • Overall: 105.4 per 100,000
  • Females: 139.1 per 100,000
  • Males: 90.1 per 100,000

Pediatric Cancer Cases (0-14 years)

  • Total cases: 237 (3.3% of all invasive cancers)
  • Gender Breakdown:
  • 95 females (40.1%)
  • 142 males (59.9%)
  • Most common pediatric cancers:
  • Leukemia, brain & CNS, Non-Hodgkin lymphoma, bone and renal cancers.

Cancer Mortality in the UAE (2023)

  • Cancer-related deaths: 1,432 (12.4% of total deaths)
